Swangrove offers you a collection of furniture and woodwork from India reflecting a tradition every bit as rich as that of sculpture, painting and textiles. Our rare antique masterpieces were made to satisfy the demand of the colonial powers: the British; Dutch; and Portuguese settlers who arrived on Indian shores from the late 15th century. They discovered to their surprise, rare articles of courtly furniture, richly worked and covered in the finest fabrics, inlaid with precious stones and gold. However, there was no local furniture that suited the settlers manner of living, so they commissioned extravagant pieces along European lines from native craftsmen, allowing them free rein with local materials. The resulting fusion of Western furniture forms with Indian materials and decorative techniques gave rise to a wide range of luxury goods like cabinets, game tables, painted boxes, ceremonial arms and much more.
Swangrove offers you a unique opportunity to acquire these rare objects. Each piece has been painstakingly restored by master craftsmen to reflect their original regal grace and glory. The upholstered furniture has been covered in the finest silks and fabrics available today in Europe, Asia and North America. We offer our collection with great pride and believe you will be immensely satisfied in the years to come with your investment. Swangrove will always stand by its commitment of providing you with excellent service and satisfaction.
